| Ennis Players were delighted to be one of
just four groups chosen to represent the amateur theatre movement in Ireland as
part of the Abbey Theatre's centenary celebrations. On December 27th 2004 exactly
one hundred years after it first opened its doors, the Abbey re-enacted the opening
night. The plays performed on opening night were: - Spreading
the News by Lady Gregory
- On Baile's Strand by W.B. Yeats
- Kathleen
Ni Houlihan by W.B. Yeats
- In the Shadow of the Glen by J.M.
Synge
These were performed in 2005 by; St. Patrick's Dramatic
Society, Dublin; Balally Players, Dublin; Ennis Players, Co. Clare and Newport
Players, Co. Down respectively. The event was a terrific success and a huge honour
for all Ennis Players to tread the hallowed boards of the national theatre on
such a prestigious occasion. |
